Great Gifts for a One Year Old

posted on September 01 2016

We all know that turning one is a milestone and a half. So much growth and development has taken place within the first year of a child's life and as they start to become more inquisitive and independent, so their choice in toys changes too. I've put together a little list of special things that are bound to engage and appeal to all sorts of forces of nature with a lust for life, aged one:-
Every child loves to stack! I think it's the sense of achievement they get from it as well as the enjoyment they get out of handling objects and learning to balance things. These robust, neutral coloured boxes are a joy to play with and will double up as a useful storage facility as children go from one stage of life to the next.
Wooden Boxes
Banging, crashing, knocking, tapping. By one, infants are desperate to make some noise! It's a form of communication whilst they are still not able to verbalise much and a sure fire way to get them experimenting with sound, rhythm and repetition. This is a fabulous, sturdy and visually stimulating drum kit built with the inner musician in mind. (Please note that the manufacturer recommends this kit for children aged 3 upwards, but we think that's a little cautious and with a bit of supervision, could be used and enjoyed from much earlier on!)

How can you get so much age appropriate stimulation out of one toy?? A colourful hammering bench which bumps a ball around the croc's inside when hit with a hammer. Beautiful, gender neutral colours and pleasing ping pong sounds. Thoughtfully made using a collection of different materials and a sure way to help develop a child's gross and fine motor skills. One for the tote for sure.
Crockenvol toy
I don't know a child who doesn't make a bee line for this little fellow when they come into our store. A truly lovely, well crafted ride on which will certainly aid physical development whilst encouraging stronger independence. A proper heirloom price which will undoubtedly stand the test of time allowing for it to be handed down from sibling to sibling and generation to generation.

Needless to say, it's all about the art of play for us here at Little Citizens Boutique and we think all people of all ages should pack in as much play as possible as often as possible. There's nothing like watching a child explore, enquire, engage and develop through play however and we hope you're enjoying your journeys and making the most of such titanic days.
Call us or e-mail us if you have any questions and don't forget to keep checking out our online store. You never know what we'll be up to next!
